WONG CHING YIAN - PART 1

Wong Ching Yian (also known as Huang Qing Yuan)was born in 1946 in Singapore and was one of the most popular singers in Singapore and a lot of other South-East Asian countries. From what I understand he still performs every now and then but hasn't put out any record for many years and he still manages some other singers.... He's the man mainly responsible for putting Off Beat Cha Cha/A Go Go/Hula on the map, a music style that was a mix between Western Rock n Roll and Classic Chinese music, and it swept through the region like a wild-fire, every where, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore bands started playing this style.... He fronted bands like The Stylers, The Melodians and Richard & The White Swam and played with many, many artists.... I specially love the stuff he did with Maurice Patton's band, The Melodians in the sixties, really, incredible music.....
