ELLYA KHADAM MEGA POST

Time for a huge post about one of the true greats in Indonesian music history, singer/composer/band leader and actress Ellya Khadam who was born Siti Alya Husnah in Jakarta, november 25, 1928. She passed away in Bogor, November 2, 2009....

She got her start singing in the late 50's, in Orkes Kelana Ria, at the time she called herself Ellya Agus:

She had a hit with this group with the song Boneka Dari India and the song was banned during the Sukarno dictatorship who deemed the song too Arabic/India influenced and back then when Orkes Kelana Ria was performing there would be secret police in the audience to check if they played it or not....

She worked with many of the major artists during the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and stayed active till she died in 2009.... And just like that other great one, Titiek Puspa, she wrote a lot of her own material and was leading her own orchestra, Orkes Melayu El Sitara....

She also played in 21 movies....

Truly one of the great ones and I'll give you every album that I have from her in this post....

Here's a funny one. It's a propaganda record from Golongan Karya or Golkar, the political vehicle/party that represented the fascist Suharto dictatorship that ruled with an iron murdering fist over the nation for 32 years, commemorating the 1971 "elections".... Songs from Bing Slamet, Tanty Josepha, Ellya Khadam, M. Sanip, Vivi Sumanti, Cillya Sumanti, Lenny Beselaar and Jimmy Samallo....
