HOMICIDE - ILLSURREKSHUN

Went to see my buddy Ucok today, we've been good friends for many, many years. He goes by the name Morgue Vanguard and he used to be the frontman of legendary hip hop/punk outfit Homicide. And he gave me their latest release, on vinyl, only 500 copies were made. I said, shall I put it on my blog, maybe give one song or so? And he said, no man, put the whole album on there! So here it is.... As usual with these guys the album comes with some very nice extra's, a huge poster, a booklet with articles and history of the band and some patches that you can be sewn on your clothes

He's got his own record label now called Grimloc Records and they have many release, some really great music and lots more coming too, so if you're interested, you can visit them here:

Well have some projects soon, more on that later.....

And here's the album:

JOSE MELIS - AT THE POPS CONCERT

José Melis (February 27, 1920, Havana, Cuba – April 7, 2005 Sun City, Arizona, United States) was born José Melis Guiu.

Melis studied at the Havana Conservatory of Music and a Cuban government scholarship enabled him to continue his education in Paris. When he was 16, he arrived in the United States, graduated from the Juilliard School of Music and worked as a lounge pianist. During World War II, while he was serving as the musical director for the USO's New York City branch of the USO, he met Jack Paar, and the two remained friends for years.

In 1954–55, Melis was the pianist when The Morning Show on CBS was hosted by Paar. Then Paar moved from mornings to late night, and from 1957 to 1962, Melis served as the musical director of The Tonight Show during Jack Paar's tenure as host. He also wrote the music for Paar's theme song, "IM4U" (lyrics by Sev F. Marino), and he performed with Paar on other shows, including Parr’s Startime (1960). One of his routines on Paar's shows was the "telephone game," in which Melis would improvise a number based on the last four digits of an audience member's telephone number.

Melis also appeared on other TV shows, including Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town, and he portrayed himself in the musical comedy film Senior Prom (1958). He occasionally accompanied Frank Sinatra, and his song "Pasion Orientale" was heard in the Judy Garland version of A Star Is Born (1954). In addition to touring with Mel Torme, he also appeared as a soloist with the Boston Pops and other symphony orchestras.

Melis was 85 when he died of a respiratory infection.....

Here's an album from him, jazz interpretations of classic pieces....

SJEF VAN OEKEL - OEI, OEI, DAT WAS LEKKER

Sjef van Oekel was a popular TV comedy character created by Dutch artist Wim T. Schippers and played by Dutch comedian, singer and actor Dolf Brouwers (1912–1997). Van Oekel started as a side character in De Fred Hachéshow in 1972, but became such a cult figure that he gained his own television show, Van Oekel's Discohoek, songs and even a comic strip, all written by Schippers.

Well, that was from wikipedia....

When I was a kid we always watched his shows, if my grandparents were there they would often get get up-set, it was total craziness, outrageous and incredibly funny....

Here's a 7":
