Here's an excellent jaipong cassette from Cucu Kardiah with the Karawang Group. Must've come out in the late 90's, early 2000's this one, Bandung was a pretty wild city back then and xtc use was heavy, the PTLN airplane factory was still open back then and there were loads and loads of foreigners working there with loads of money to spend, loads of textile guys working here too back then and a huge English teacher community, most of them were freaks and burn-outs from the West, anybody could be a teacher, if you spoke more then 10 words of English you could find a job easily and the pay was usually black, 40, 50. 60 dollars an hour. Many (often incredibly shady)discotheques and cafe's and often it was cops dealing in those places, all those places were blue with weed smoke and nobody got arrested.... That all changed with the downfall of the Suharto regime, when Indonesia became "democratic".... Nowadays if you want to be an English teacher you have to have at least a university education and the dumbest thing you can do here is buy/use dope, any kind of dope, because the chance of getting caught is huge and then it's extortion, often torture, paying loads of money to stay out of jail and if you do go to jail it's years and years of doing time, I've seen it happen too many times.... The tragic thing about it all is that many, many people are using the worst kind of stuff you can imagine, vague pills, could be anything, lots of folks using prescription stuff like Xanax and loads and loads of people dying or getting maimed or blind from drinking self made alcohol (called oplosan here).... Me, I was a pretty wild boy in my younger years (and that's putting it mildly), done it all, went through it all but here in Indonesia.... no way... it's just not worth it.....

Anyway, I've never seen a jaipong cassette dealing (no pun intended) with the subject of xtc before, two songs, Tripping Jaipong and the song Gara-Gara Ecstasy (gara-gara means trouble in Sundanese)....

Excellent music!
