Fantastic jathilan cassette from the Kudho Praneso group from Middle Java... Jathilan, Kuda Lumping, Reog, all trance dancing where dancers go into a deep, deep trance, get possesed by spirits and change into a variarity of animals, tigers, monkey's, buffalo, and it can get WILD... Here, in the village where I live they call it Kuda Lumping and they do it around 4 to 6 times a year, right in the front of my house where there's a volley ball field and I love it, the music is amazing, the atmosphere can get incredibly heavy, dancers go into their trance, they vomit, they eat glass, they tear coconuts apart with their teeth, they roll in the dust, they've got half a meter of snot hanging from their noses, it's wild, and you gotta be a bit careful, they will blindly run into you at full speed or they can bite... Here's one I filmed when they were rebuilding the volley ball field so it was a bit messy and dusty: And here's a later one, last year when they volley ball field was ready, right in front of my house :) And here's a few pictures I took from an earlier Kuda Lumping dance....

MADROTTER HOME TAPINGS 80's & 90's

That's my old drum kit, in my old house in Rotterdam, I had another kit too, this one:

Around '86, '87 I bought a 4 track cassette recorder and I bought a casio keyboard and you could take samples with it, I would hang a mic over a speaker and sample away. You couldn't cut those samples, couldn't do anything with it so you had to press the sample button on that casio key board at the right time. I also had an old wind organ and that was it. It was simple and it was fun and for the next 9 years or so that's how I was making music at home, always buying all sorts of records, second hand, for sampling and records, back then, were cheap as hell because most people were totally into cd's which then were a new medium and everybody was selling their old vinyl collections.... Here's some of the recordings I made during those years, me playing the drums, samples, sometimes some other instruments and me singing, maybe some of you will enjoy it, it's simple, it's years and years before pc's and fruity loops etc. and it was incredible fun to make it.... I wasn't a great song text writer so I would often get my lyricks from the old poets, Houseman, Keats etc. .... Not in chronoligical order, all recorded between '86 and '96.... DE PRUTSERS aka HET POBILOFONISCHE NARREN KOOR

Back in the 80's me and my friends Jan and Robo were in our own living room band, The Prutsers aka Het Pobilofonische Narren Koor. We would always record in Jan's house and we used every instrument we could get our hands on, guitars, percussion instruments, children instruments, a commodore 64 computer , pots and pans and anything else we could find. Back then we were all out of work stoners and we were in Jan's house almost every night till the early morning, either making music or playing board games or watching pro-wrestling.... We would record our songs using the so called "ping pong" method with cassette recorders, and later we used a 4 track cassette recorder... Often we had to try to record a song many times because we would be on the floor laughing all the time, tears streaming from our eyes, some of this stuff is.... well.... we were always stoned, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, total pot heads.... Mostly it's me, Jan and Robo but sometimes other friends would join in the fun, Jan and Robo could actually play instruments, me, I've been a drummer all my life in Holland but I would often play the toy trumpets and melodica and most of the times I would be the one singing... We did songs in English but most of our songs were in Dutch and we would also totally rape famous pop songs.... God, those were the days, incredible times, not a care in the world, all of us on the dole, all of us poor and not giving a fuck at all.....
