ASEP SUNANDAR SUNARYA - ASTRAJINGGA MANTUN

Here's a wayang bodoran cassette from Asep Sunandar Sunarya and his Giri Harja III Group with Aan Darwati and Nenny Hayati singing.... This one is VERY different and VERY beautiful, not gamelan but very pantun oriented... Wayang Bodoran is a style developed by Asep Sunandar Sunarya, very much focused on the cassette market and almost always just one cassette long, not much focused on story telling but more on just telling jokes, very much disliked by a lot of the older dalang (wayang puppet players), Asep was truly a revolutionary in that genre, coming out with wayang puppets that could do all sorts of things, smoking cigarettes, vomiting; he was very much influenced by another dalang who was also much focused on the cassette market and very much disliked by the older generation of dalang, R. C. Jamar Media who was very, very popular with younger audiences and who was a big innovator (he quit producing wayang and sandiwara ((story telling)) cassettes and became a full time Islamic preacher)....
