How she can hold her own in the showbiz is one of the mysteries of the world.
Is it because she is the daughter of a large conglomerate?
She left Showbiz in the wake of a lesbian scandal.

    From Wiki
Naomi Sagara :10 January 1945 - ) is a Japanese female singer, TV personality, actress and composer. She currently works mainly as a businesswoman. Real name: Naoko Yamaguchi [2]. Her birth name is Kawada Nahoko, but her parents divorced when she was a child. She was adopted by her maternal grandparents and took the surname Yamaguchi. She has now changed her family name to Sagara Naomi, the same as her stage name. She is a special lecturer at the Japan College of Art.

    Career
Born in Tokyo, she is a great-granddaughter of Jun Kawada (third son of Kawada), a managing director of the Sumitomo Zaibatsu and the grandson of the Meiji-era Chinese scholar Kawada Onogae. A distant relative is Sayuri Yoshinaga [3][4]. Yamamoto Naozumi's wife, Yamamoto Masami, is also a distant relative [5][4].

When she was 16 years old at Sugoha High School, she studied jazz vocals under jazz vocalist Sanae Mizushima; in 1963, she entered Nihon University College of Arts; after graduating in 1967, she auditioned to become a professional singer and passed NHK Newcomer Audition with high results. In May, she joined the entertainment agency Allstaff Productions Ltd, run by composer Izumi Taku, and made her record debut with ‘Sekai wa Futari no Tameno’ (The World is for Two) on the JVC label. It sold 1.2 million copies, won the Newcomer of the Year Award at the 9th Japan Record Awards and made her first appearance at the 18th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen that year. The following year, 1968, ‘Sekai wa Ni no Futari no Tame’ was chosen as the marching song for the 40th National High School Baseball Tournament.

In 1969, she won the 11th Japan Record Award with ‘Ii ja ja shiawase nara’ (If I'm Happy), becoming the first female singer to win the Japan Record Award for Best New Artist and the Grand Prize. 1970: she won the Art Encouragement Prize for New Artist.

In 1971, she became independent from All Staff Productions and established the Naomi Sagara Music Office Co.

She was active in many fields, not only as a singer but also as a composer (she also composed music for TV dramas), appeared in variety shows and hosted TV programmes as a TV personality, and as an actress in Thank You as a member of the Fukuko Ishii group.

After a scandal with TV personality Cassie was reported in 1980, she gradually withdrew from entertainment activities and was not selected for the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen that year . Sagara herself later said, ‘I don't know what that was all about at all. I was just surprised. But every society has two sides of the same coin and power relations. I guess that's how it is."[8][9] (Cassie, on the other hand, reiterated in February 2020 that this scandal was true, in response to Sagara's comments).
