THE KILIMA HAWAIIANS, BINTANG SINAR & THE MENA MURIA MINSTRELS - TROPICAL MEMORIES
The Kilima Hawaiians and the Mena Moeria Minstrels are two foundational, Netherlands-based Hawaiian and Indo-rock music groups. They were primarily formed by Moluccan musicians from the former Dutch East Indies (modern-day Indonesia) who migrated to Europe following Indonesian independence. The Mena Moeria Minstrels: Founded in March 1951, this group won a national music competition shortly after their inception. They were prolific in the 1950s, releasing at least twenty singles and albums like Beautiful Hawaii. The Kilima Hawaiians: This group was also highly influential in European-Hawaiian music. Both ensembles shared a distinct acoustic style that blended traditional Polynesian sounds with Indonesian musical sensibilities. The link between these two groups is the legendary Indo-Hawaiian musician Rudi Wairata. Wairata was a highly influential steel guitarist and bandleader. He originally founded and led the Mena Moeria Minstrels in 1951.Throughout his career, he frequently collaborated, performed, and recorded with The Kilima Hawaiians as well.... I can't find much information about the Bintang Sinar, they were a krontjong group, also from Holland with singer Mirjam van der Haar....
