Zhuo Wenjun China, pre-Han dynasty. Date of birth and death unknown. Daughter of the wealthy Zhu Wangsun of Lingyan in Shu (Sichuan). She was bereaved of her husband at a young age and returned to her family home, where she met and fell in love with the literary scholar Sima Sang-ruo. The two eloped to Chengdu, where they had to work hard to make ends meet, including opening a tavern. The two chuxi style poems, ‘Qin Songs’, are said to have been composed by Sang-nyu Sima to the tune of the zither and to have attracted the heart of Zhuwenjun, but they may have been imitations by later generations.
