Taisho Goto Invented in 1912 by Goro Morita (real name Jinzaburo Kawaguchi), the eldest son of the Moritaya Hotel in Osu, Nagoya, based on the two-stringed harp and inspired by the typewriter keys. The arrangement of the keys is similar to that of a piano keyboard. The range at the time of invention was two octaves. Metal strings were used from the time of its invention, but the traditional Japanese koto strings were made of silk, so the tone was different from that of the traditional Japanese koto. The keyboard also made it relatively easy to play, with even beginners being able to accurately produce the pitch of the notes. For this reason, it became popular as a household instrument in Japan during the Taisho era (1912-1926).
In Morita's birthplace, Osu Kannon in Osu, Nagoya, a stone monument has been erected in the precincts of the Osu Kannon, the birthplace of the Taisho Goto .
