ACYUTANANDA SWAMI AND OTHERS

More beautiful music from India. Tried to find information about this album but all you find is "unknown artists". Well, one artist who is on this record for sure is Acyutananda Swami, an American who lived for many years in India and who became quiet famous for his singing bhajans in the early 70's, there's just no mistaking his voice and I will soon share another album that features more songs from him....

Also Srila Prabhupada, Founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known as the "Hare Krishna Movement" is pictured on the cover....

This album came out in 1971....

ZOOGZ RIFT

I bought this album two months ago in Holland and I had no idea what it was when I bought it, really bought it because of the cover and when I came home, well, I just couldn't believe how incredibly good it was. Zoogz Rift. And I can't believe that in all my years, 3 decades plus a few years of mainly listening to underground music I never came across the music from this incredible artist....

Now, normally I share whole albums here but in this case I'm not giving this album away, see, his ex-wife Laura and his son Aaron run a facebook page in honor of Zoogz Rift, and there you can purchase his music....

But I did get permission to share 1 song with you guys from Laura, it's my favorite song from this album called "With The Necessary Changes Having Been Made".

Zoogz Rift was also involved in professional wrestling (I'm a life long fan believe it or not), he was involved with the old UFC....

BEAVER HARRIS - AFRICAN DRUMS

From Wikipedia:

Harris was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Harris came from an athletic family. He played baseball as a teenager for the Kansas City Monarchs (then part of the Negro American League) and was scouted by major league teams Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants.[

It was only after he was in the army that he began playing drums. After his national service ended in 1963 he moved to New York City and was encouraged to pursue a musical career by Max Roach. While in New York he worked and/or toured with Marion Brown, Dexter Gordon, Albert Ayler, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Jordan, Howard Johnson, Sheila Jordan, Lee Konitz, Thelonious Monk, Roswell Rudd, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner,Sonny Stitt, Clark Terry, Chet Baker, Doc Cheatham and Larry Coryell among other musicians.

In addition, Harris founded a "world music" band and called it "The 360 Degree Music Experience". The band included some of the most significant artists of the time, including Buster Williams, Hamiet Bluiett, Don Pullen, Jimmy Garrison, Ron Carter, Ricky Ford, Titos Sompa and many others.

Harris died of prostate cancer at the age of 55.

Here's a solo album from Beaver Harris playing the drums with David S. Ware playing the tenor saxophone on one song....

LES TROUBADOURS DU ROI BAUDOUIN - MISSA LUBA CHRISTMAS IN CONGO

Well, it's that time of the year again, Christmas albums, starting of with this one, Les Troubadours Du Roi Baudouin. A Congolese choir led by the Belgium missionary Father Guido Haazen O.F.M. (Order of Friars Minor) (b. 27 September 1921, d. 20 August 2004).

Led Zeppelin named them as on of their influences, The Kyrie was used in the Mexican film Un alma pura (1965) and the MGM film The Singing Nun (1966). The Sanctus featured prominently in Lindsay Anderson's 1968 film If ... starring Malcolm McDowell, with which the Mass was for a time closely identified. It was also used in Never Let Me Go (2010), Lost and Delirious (2001), and the telemovie Deadly Voyage (1996), in which it accompanied the closing credits. The Gloria featured in Pier Paolo Pasolini's The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964).

The Clash refer to the recording in the lyrics of "Car Jamming" on their 1982 album Combat Rock. The cover of the Troubadours' album appears briefly in the Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange (1971) as Malcolm McDowell's character, Alex, strolls through a record shop....

Certainly a very different Christmas album this one....
