Yukari Ito (born 6 April 1947) is a Japanese female singer and actress. Real name: Nobuko Ito.

Born in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo. Her father was born in Okinawa Prefecture. Graduated from Kanto Gakuen Girls' High School (now Kanto International High School), dropped out[1] and was one of the Japanese pop singers who dominated the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to appearing on music programmes and giving concerts as a singer, she also worked as an actress.

    Biography.
She began singing at an Occupation Forces camp as a child, and made her debut at the age of 11 (June 1958) on King Records with the song ‘Katami no jujika/Kuwai river March’ (theme song for the film ‘Senjo ni kakeru bashi’) .

She then temporarily suspended her performing career, but moved to Watanabe Productions and resumed her activities. Together with Mie Nakao and Mari Sono, who specialised in pop music, they formed the ‘Spark Three Daughters’. They appeared in Shabondama Holiday and Sing! In 1967, they released ‘Pinky's Memory’, which became an explosive hit and has been sung for many years since. She went on to have a string of hits, including ‘Koi no shizuku’, ‘Hoshi wo mita nai’ (Don't look at the stars), ‘Asa no kuchizuke’ (Morning kiss) and ‘Shiranai no’ (I didn't know). In 1969, she starred in the film ‘Ai ni Ashita’ and hosted the 20th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Contest) in the same year.

In 1970, she became independent from Watanabe Productions after her single ‘Marriage’, and although ‘Nobody Knows’ became a hit in 1971, she experienced the harshness of losing the backing of a major production company, as well as marriage, childbirth and divorce. In addition, the spontaneous break-up of the ‘Spark Three Musume’ and the rise of junior singers such as the ‘New Three Musume’ and the ‘Hana no Chusan Trio’ led to a temporary slump afterwards. The group temporarily stagnated. However, the TBS music programme ‘Sound in “S”’, which she was the main presenter of from 1977 to 1981, was a turning point, and she came to be re-evaluated as an ‘adult singer’ . The programme was structured around Western music, which was her speciality, and she sometimes sang duets with guests herself, and sang standard numbers with Yuzuru Sera on the piano at the end of the programme. The programme was rebroadcast on the CS TBS channel until 2007.
