This is music made by the Batak people, music from the area around Lake Toba in Sumatera. Lots of percussion and that typical trumpet that you also hear in Pencak Silat music...
You can read about the recording history of this music here http://repository.usu.ac.id/bitstream/123456789/15248/1/etn-sep2005-2.pdf_1 And on the instruments: http://images.sibabiat.multiply.multiplycontent.com/attachment/0/SLGJ@AoKCn8AAF0Wctw1/The%20Terminology%20of%20Batak%20Instrumental%20Music%20in%20Northern%20Sumatra.pdf?key=sibabiat:journal:199&nmid=112087656
Basically this music is intended for public celebrations such as weddings in Batak culture, and they would insist on live performances, while it evidently did not find much favour for playing in cars/at home on cassette. So the recording industry died out quickly.

that's pretty impressive Matthew, these are cassettes that are very, very rare as far as I know, thanks for the information! I like what Hesek was doing, simple time keeping, plate of iron, or beer bottle, you don't see that very often:)
This dates from the late 1970s.
