Very nice cassette by the 'Sett', or the Lady! It even looks very cute! Wish you could have made a scan out of it, but I know you don't do it this way, Henk. The music is Gadedt Hobak Lieh ('Why Have You Renewed Your Love For Me?'): a very emotive piece by this wonderful Egyptian woman. Words: Poet Ahmad Rami. Composed by, Riyad Essounbathi. The song was first recorded in 1952. This cassette though was made in the late 70's. Very much apreeshed.
One blogger (Washerman's Dog), has posted another drop by Umm-Kalthoum today. Check it: http://washermansdog-ajnabi.blogspot.com/2012/04/mathematician-of-nishapur-oum-kulthum.html
That's her poem-song written by the famous Persian poet-philospher-mathematician Omar Al-Khayyam (عمر الخيام - 1040 - 1131), and translated by the same Ahmad Rami, and was composed by the same Sounbathi and put to record in 1968.
Thanks Hammer!!! Knew you would like this post:) I am going to record and post a bunch of Gambus/Qasidah albums by Rofiqoh Dharto Wahab specially the ones with Orkes Gambus Al Fata, amazing Arabic music played by Indonesians, you might like them, some of these songs are incredibly fast and tightly played I just love that stuff....
