WALDJINAH & ORKES KRONTJONG BINTANG SURAKARTA - WALANG KEKEK

  1. Thanks Henk, i'm becoming a fan of Krontjong. Thanks also for the heads up on Brigadier General R Pirngadie. Could you explain a little more how he "took it to the next level" as you say. It sounds a bit more modern than Waldjinah & often reminds me of Hawaiin music. maybe because of that ukele sound which bubbles away under the languid vocals

Well... usually a krontjong band is 4, 5 musicians, Pirngadi had an enormous orchestra with a huge choir, and a lot of his records is just beyond just krontjong, I guess exotica would be a better term, or krontjong exotica :) He performed at the New York Fair, end of the 50's beginning of the 60's, I forget, and he blew the audiences away with his music.... I actually got as message a few years back from his family, thanking me for posting his music :) Also check out Orkes Krontjong Tjendrawasih (or sometimes modern spelling Cendrawasih) those guys were incredible too....
