ANDRE KOSTELANETZ & HIS ORCHESTRA - LURE OF THE TROPICS
André Kostelanetz (Russian: Андрей Костеланец) was a conductor.
Born December 22, 1901 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Died January 13, 1980 in Haiti at the age of 78.
For many years, Kostelanetz also conducted the New York Philharmonic in pop concerts and recordings, in which they were billed as Andre Kostelanetz and His Orchestra.
Here's a beautiful (pre)exotica album from him that came out in 1954, and you can read all about it here:

Thanks Henk. Interesting to read all that Exotica analysis. My mother would have just said that "he had a very pleasant sound" Two years later in 1956 Elvis burst out of the radio much to my parents horror & disgust. Still here i am so many years later listening to old Kosty again. C'est la vie.
ReplyDelete:) My parents were huge Elvis lovers, and Cliff and Pat and all the others from that era :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Henk - looking forward to enjoying this classic Lp...
