Thank you for this. I know I'm a little off in my fantasy dates, but I listen to this and imagine myself in a high end Indonesian 40's nightclub, with Japanese Imperial troops on R&R running a conga line and beautiful women like Saloma hanging out.

i know what you mean i get those images too, all very smokey, all very suave, hot, blistering hot, beautiful women, shady things going on in corners. they managed to captivate that image a bit sometimes in that "the year of living dangerously" movie, have you seen it?
I have, and it was terrifying. But in my 40's Indonesian night club fantasies, everyone is well fed and happy.
Back in school, I was in love with an exchange student, who looked just like that picture of Saloma you put up, except she was Greek -- Salomas come in all nationalities.
I really must get out there. Every time I try, I get sidetracked with one thing or another. But the place is definitely calling.
saloma was very, very beautiful indeed. if you want terrifying watch the act of killing which came out last year, one of the best docu's about indonesia i've seen....
