B R A I N B O X

Fantastic album from Dutch prog-rock band Brainbox....

Brainbox is a Dutch rock group from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The band was founded in Amsterdam by guitarist Jan Akkerman , drummer Pierre van der Linden and singer Kazimir Lux (Kaz). Their debut single was "Down Man", which established their progressive blues sound. They had several hit singles in the Netherlands, including "Between Alpha and Omega", "Doomsday Train", "Reason to Believe" and "Smile". In late 1969, soon after they released their first album, Akkerman left to join Focus, later recruiting van der Linden as well, then Brainbox bass player Cyril Havermans.

  1. Bought this one in the mid 70's in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dark Rose and Sea of Delight are both striking tunes.

  2. Jan Akkerman was, at that time, touted as THE BEST guitar player of the world... I remember as a little kid, on Dutch tv, he was going to perform, live, and they were going on about he was the best there is and the best there will ever be etc., and he just sat there, on the podium, by himself, and he just sat there, and then he said "I can't do this now" and walked off.... Never forgot that, I must've been around 7 or so....

  3. Great memory that. He never saw himself as the best, I don't think. Based on what he said after doing this gig https://youtu.be/Vakx58fh4bA
