Thanks Yoshio! Always interested in things Japanese :) There was a time when I was thinking about learning that language, back when I was doing jiu jitsu, late 80's early 90's for about 5 years. I was training for e-bono kata competitions and had started doing judo because my sensei wanted me to join open competitions to see how many black belts I could trash :) I was pretty good at it but alas, first I broke my breast bone, that didn't keep me from training, but a white belter did a wrong move and shattered the bones in my left shoulder, that was the end of my jiu jitsu dreams, had to stop.... Now, at age 59 I'm dealing with lots of old injuries acting up from those wild but beautiful times....
The world echoes in funny ways. In high school, I decided to skip judo classes. Instead, I listened intently to Dutch bands like the Fungus,Gruppo Sportivo… They became my heros, and still. I regretted not being born Dutch, because in Holland there are games where you just walk in the sea, and Randy Newman is the most popular foreign musician…What a surprise!
You were into Japanese culture at the same time. I searched but do not know what e-bono kata is. Probably a type of throw…

Gruppo Sportivo.... Well, their albums are on this blog :) Great, great band, they came out first when I was 12, punk was exploding and I was swept off my feet by it... Gruppo was never a punk band but in those weird days they were considered as a punk band too, sort of....As were many others... They were much loved in the punk scene at the time though... Never saw them live (I think) but I saw their female back-up singers loads of times as they were singing in lots of bands, with Herman Brood too... But that was late 70's, my jiu jitsu days were from around '85 till '91, e-bono kata is where they give you a list with attacks and then you have to think and develop defenses against those attacks and act them out in front of a jury, it's quite hard and can be pretty brutal even though there's no real fighting.... There wasn't any MMA back in those days although there was of course quite a bit going on in Japan (Antonio Inoki and some pro-wrestling organizations for example).... Never was aware that Randy Newman was so popular in Holland :) But he was quite mainstream and I was always listening to underground stuff, punk, post punk, experimental music.... Many, many concerts, so many that I've forgotten half of them :) The one concert that always stands out for me was James White (later James Change) & The Contortions, in 1981, what an incredible band, first concert I danced like crazy....
