Island Serenade Tzu Wei sings Hit Songs

Island Serenade is a Chinese song written in Taiwan, and the first Chinese song to be officially recorded in Taiwan . It refers to the island of Taiwan, not to the former ‘Fire Island’ where political prisoners were held, but to the island of Taiwan. The song was renamed ‘The Light of Friendship’ after Nan Yan added Cantonese lyrics to it in 1987, and became the theme song of the film Prisoners of War.

  2. Tzu Wei means Crape Myrtle.
Tzu Wei (紫薇) (13 November 1930 - 4 March 1989), real name Hu Yihang (胡以衡), was a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. She was a famous singer in Taiwan, known as the ‘Evergreen Queen of Songs’, and died on 4 March 1989 after her cancer was detected in 1987.

  3. More about this song
Composed in 1954 by Zhou Lanping, who worked for the China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), with lyrics by Pan Yingjie, the song depicts the moods of a man and woman in love, with their ups and downs; it was first recorded by Qin Jin (formerly known as Qin Jing) and released by Money Records.

In 1957, Overseas Chinese Film Corporation produced the film episode of ‘Amena’, which included the version recorded by the ‘Queen of Treasure Island Songs’ Ji Luxia in the Zhongguang ‘Good Countryside’ programme, at that time, her interpretation of this song won the first place in Zhongguang's annual listener's choice for two consecutive years. 1958, Mingfeng Records recorded the version made by singer Ziwei in Zhongguang, initially with the original recording. In 1958, Ming Feng Records made an album version of singer Zi Wei's recording at Zhongguang, which was not an immediate hit at first. The song was later introduced to the Philippines by Universal Records in the Philippines, creating a big sensation in the Chinese community, and was also popular in other South Pacific countries. In 1961, Four Seas Records re-recorded the song again, still sung by Ziwei, and in conjunction with radio broadcasts, before it began to gain popularity in Taiwan. Another female singer, Sima Yin (1925-2001), was also featured on EMI's 1960 compilation of oldies, ‘The Years of Sound’ Vol.1, which included Sima Yin's version of ‘Green Island Serenade’ on track 15, which had an archaic sound, and the arrangement was based entirely on the Jin Qin version.

  6. Thanks Yoshio. Yeah, day 8 with a messed up internet connection, provider keeps promising to send somebody, and they keep not showing up, very frustrating. I have connection but very bad, takes 5, 6 hours just to upload 1 album, and often have to restart the upload... Sigh...

Is it unrelated to solar flares?
I had a hard disk crash and eight years of data went flying.
Wi-Fi on my sub computer was broken.
Japan also has many power cuts.
Rice shortages have surfaced in here.
There's so many white noise around us.
    Please take it easy.

  8. Unrelated I would think, I think Indonesia was on the far side of this event. We didn't get any Northern-lights or enchanting pink skies here.... No power cuts either and, as far as I know no rice shortages either (yet).... What worries me a bit and irritates me a lot is more and more shops here going cashless. I only do cash, never took money from a pin machine.... Don't see how they could go cashless here, paying with a card to a becak driver? A street seller? What about the beggars??? They tried it in Nigeria last year, ended with the whole country rioting, most folks there don't even have a bank account and I presume many, many folks don't have one here either....
