尺八は歌う 三橋美智也 ヒット・アルバム 尺八:村岡実 琴:米川敏子 Shakuhachi Sings Hit songs of Michiya Mihashi Shakuhachi :Minoru Muraoka Koto:Toshiko Yonekawa
Muraoka is like Chet Atkins as producer. He reworked pop hits into easy listening in his own way. As I remember writing before, Michiya Mihashi was a folk song prodigy, and his hit songs have a nostalgia for rural life.
Minoru Muraoka (1924 - 2 January 2014) was a shakuhachi player from Miyazaki Prefecture.
He was one of the first to introduce the ‘modern shakuhachi’, which appeared in the late 1960s, and was also a central figure in the introduction of the shakuhachi.
Personality and personal history In 1962, he formed the Tokyo Shakuhachi Trio with Miyata Kohachiro and Yokoyama Katsuya. 1963, the Tokyo Shakuhachi Trio held its second concert, which had a great impact on those involved in traditional Japanese music, and after all-night discussions at the Tokyo Music Company office and at Minoru Muraoka's home, which organised the concert, the group was founded by Miki Minoru. The idea was to form the Nippon Music Group .
However, Muraoka envisaged a line of popular music, and due to differences in policy with the Nippon Music Group, he left the group before the second concert in 1965, and the Tokyo Shakuhachi Trio was also disbanded.
His performance of Hibari Misora's ‘Juu’ became a connection, and he began to accompany Saburo Kitajima and Hideo Murata .
In 1970, they released the album Bamboo as a jazz band incorporating taiko, koto and biwa . He died of multiple organ failure on 2 January 2014. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9D%91%E5%B2%A1%E5%AE%9F

Thanks for the info Yoshio :) And you're welcome Rev, kind of wondering about Jonny, hasn't posted in months and we know he's going through some very heavy stuff....
Yoshio, I always appreciate your information. Henk, agreed, I miss Jonny and hope he’ll make it through. I might drop him a line if he’s available. Honestly, given state of things at large on top of the personal challenges, I can understand how you’d loose the drive to maintain a blog. Hope you're doing well.
Funny thing is that this blog thing is one of the things that have kept me sane, so to speak, given state of things at large on top of the personal challenges is precisely the right way of describing it, not to mention the totally depressing rain season that just doesn't seem to end.... Today I'm deep into the writings and ramblings of Curtis Yarvin, so revered by the likes of Thiel, Musk and J.D. Vance among others, truly nightmarish stuff that reminds me of THX 1138 and the writings of Philip K. Dick who was warning us of all of this so incredibly long ago... Haven't read anything by Phil for quite a long time now but just started reading Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash which, so I've read, describes the planned Techno-fascist State to a T... We'll see.... But yeah, I do miss Jonny's writing (and the often very funny comments), hope he's ok....
Beautiful labels and vinyl. Looking forward to the music. Thanks for this and all the rest.
