It has been covered in Taiwan, and now I am writing this.
It is probably one of the songs that was loved throughout Asia without the Japanese knowing about it.

    The Composer is also legend.
    佐々木俊一 Shunichi Sasak
Born in Namie-cho, Futaba-gun, Fukushima Prefecture. Real name is Shunichi Sasaki (same reading). Studied cello at the Toyo School of Music (now Tokyo College of Music). One of his classmates was Tadashi Manjome. After graduation, he worked with Manjome in the orchestra box of a cinema in Asakusa. Later, after becoming interested in records, he aspired to become a composer. To get a job at a record company, he trained on drums and joined JVC as a drummer. In between band jobs, he composed music.

Then, in 1932, his first work as a composer, Tears for Migratory Birds, became a big hit. In the same year, ‘Shima no Musume’, sung by Katsutaro Kouta, became a big hit, leading to the golden age of Uguisu Geisha, and Sasaki quickly became a hit maker for Victor. He then teamed up with lyricist Saeki Takao and had a string of hits throughout the pre-war and post-war periods with Boku no Seishun, Mujo no Yume, Brilliant Constellation, Shin Yuki, Tomorrow is Otaeruka, Tsukiyori no Shosha, Kuwako no Chinatown, Alps no Ranch, Kogen no Eki yo, Sayonara, and Yakyu Kyoko.

Died 27 January 1957, aged 49. In 1963, a monument to his achievements was erected in Ohori, Namie, by local volunteers to commemorate him with the song ‘Kogen no Eki yo, Sayonara’
