OGLE EYES - OGLE EYES

Mega rare album from Ogle Eyes, a 70's band from the city of Malang in East-Java, they had a huge reputation for putting on amazing shows and mainly that was because Micky Markelbach (aka Micky Bentoel or Micky Jaguar) was their singer. They used to call him the Mick Jagger of Malang, and he would do crazy stuff on stage like biting living rabbits and drinking their blood... By the time the band recorded this album Markelbach had already left the band in persuit of a solo career....

INPRES I/V/'80 - ELOI! LAMA SABACTANI!

Talk about VERY interesting albums, here's one.... Inpres I/V/'80..... The band name's meaning, Inpres is short for Presidental Instruction, the I stands for the fact that this was their first album, the V stands for the number of members in the band and '80 is the year this album came out.... They were all members of the Bandung Institute of technology (ITB).... One of their members was this guy:

Tulus Setio, better known as Cok Rampal, he was a guitar player in a band with Iwan Fals, other members were Harry Soekar, Rasmini aka Sarah David, Bambang Supriyadi aka Bang Jo and Sulis.... The music takes a lot from Irish folk music and some of the songs on this album deal with the life and legend of Kusni Kandut... Kusni Kandut was born Waluyo, the son of a poor farmer in Blitar, East Java. During the Republic of Indonesia’s independence revolutionhe fought against the Dutch... In the 60's and 70's he became a gang leader doing robberies and such... he became friends with Bir Ali, a man of Arab descent , the ex-husband of singer Ellya Khadam. His full name is Muhammad Ali, nicknamed Bir Ali because he liked to drink beer before taking action. Ali Bir was arrested and sentenced to death for a robbery he commited with Kusni kandut where they robbed and killed a wealthy Arab named Ali Badjened. Kusni Kandut and his gang also robbed the Indonesian National Museum (Gedung Gajah) in 1961, they stole a lot of very prescious jewels and a worker in the museum was killed and after being on the run for many years Kusni Kandut was caught while trying to sell those stolen jewels. He was sentenced to death and was executed in 1980. Shortly before he was executed he became a Catholic and was baptized taking the name Ignatius Waluyo. He's known as "The Robin Hood of Indonesia" because as it turned out later, a lot of the loot from robberies was distributed among the poor.....

This is a promotional vinyl copy for radio stations and it is not the full album which had 12 songs, it was officially only released on cassette.... GET IT HERE Enjoy!

IYAR WIARSIH & BHINEKA TUNGGAL IKA GROUP - CELEMPUNG SENI SUNDA

In my many conversations with Gugum Gumbira about Sundanese music we would always discuss the many, many female singers (sinden) and he would always say that there was one sinden who stood above them all. In his opinion the very best of the best was Iyar Wiarsih. She's still alive, very old now, she was born September 21, 1932 and she composed many great Sundanese songs, her most famous song is Mojang Priangan but also songs like Kalakay Murag, Wanita Jaya, Reret Mojang, and Gutak-gitek. Some five years ago I attended the yearly birthday party from Pak Gugum, always great parties with great performances, I saw the great Yoyoh Supriatin perform at the party the year before, and they told me that the surprise guest were going to be H. Idjah Hadijah and Iyar Wiarsih. Unfortunately both had to cancel, Iyar Wiarsih because she was sick and H. Idjah Hadijah because her husband, the great wayang puppet player R. Tjetjep Supriadi, who passed away recently, was sick. Really too bad, I would've loved seeing those two legends perform.... Anyway, here's a fantastic celempung cassette from Iyar Wiarsih with music by Inen Saputra and the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Group, Titim Fatimah's old group, amazing music on this one....
