Romance was a Dutch magazine in the 50's and the 60's, they also put out a few records and this EP is one of them, excellent live recordings from the great Ella Fitzgerald singing The Lady Is A tramp, The Man I Love and How High The Moon....

enjoy!
When I was a child, my mother was a press agent and booking person, at a club in Chicago called "Mr Kelly's." She often booked Ella Fitzgerald at this club, and the two of them would pool resources and hire a babysitter for her child, who was about my age, and myself, so I spent a fair amount of time in a car with her, and a lot of time with her kid.
ReplyDeleteShe was great. Her speaking voice was just like her singing voice. A very nice lady. Hung out with Buddy Rich.
Thanks for this, Henk.
that's great ... i'm a huge ella fan!

you're welcome guys, beautiful story again Dolmance :) And I'm happy you guys like this, it says (in Dutch) on the back cover:
ReplyDelete"Now she is the World's "first lady of jazz" and at the openings concert of the tour of this season from Norman Granz that happened in the huge Deautschenhallen in Berlin, Ella had 12.000 enthusiastic jazz-fans listening to her"
So, I don't know, maybe this was recorded there? It says on discogs that this record was never for sell, maybe you got it with the magazine....
Thought I found another album from her today, singing negro spriritual songs but unfortunately there was an other album in the cover....
Seem like the tracks were all taken from Ella in Berlin
