Lately i've become a fans to "keroncong belanda" like Lief Java, Krontjong Minstrels, Pantja Warna etc. some purist tend to look down on these, especially because often the singers can not imitate the unique "cengkok keroncong", just like some critics say only whites can do the "twang". instrumentation also sometime are less than those employed in full krontjong orchestra. yet maybe because of these, the "krontjong belanda" have a potential to be the indonesia's answer to bossa nova - light sweet music for the simpler times
yes it's different but i love it myself, more light indeed but often also full with longing for what is lost... wonder how they look at george de fretes then :)
