Here's a nice cassette from Ki Nartosabdho, one of the giants of Middle-Javanese music, most of the cassette is a bit of the usual Ki Nartosabdho fare but the first song is way, way more swinging that his usual stuff (which is always great)and I've been playing it over and over tonight loving it....
GET IT HERE
enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this Ki Nartosabdho, Henk!
ReplyDeleteI found a Lokananta tape by him in Wonosobo last year:

cool :) if you go to the yokyakarta area there are many, many cassettes from ki nartosabdho....
ReplyDeleteI've been but I only had 4 weeks in Java, and with wife and kids didn't have the time to look deeper. You live in Bandung and know where to get the treasures, I was lucky to find one decent cassette store in Wonosobo - I listened two hours and decided to focus on Lokananta.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the Jaipongan treasures you're putting up, year after year. Without you preserving them digitally, they sure would be gone in 20 years... ;)
About Nartosabdho - I found 45 tapes + vinyl albums online over the months (36 of them from the Fajar label) - but they're mostly MP3's in 128kb/s (better than nothing).
ReplyDeleteOh, now it's very, very hard to find any good jaipong cassettes, they're all gone, mostly bought up and shipped out of the country by foreigners, I'm just lucky that I've been collecting so long, about 15 years now and I've got some people who call me up every now and then when they've got some for sell again, plus I've got some places that not many people know about that sell them from time toi time :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I know a guy who's generous enough to rip all these treasures and let us participate in listening to all these gems - thanks, Henk!! :)
