This came out in 1965, it was actually a song from Finland called Letkis which comes from a Finish dance called Letkajenkka.... Not only was this song a number one hit in Holland, three other acts also came out with this song and they also reached the number one spot in the Dutch hit parade and all 4 versions shared the number one spot at the same time, for 21 weeks.... And ehrrr.... on the back cover there's instructions on how to dance to this song so.... GET BUSY!!!!

And there's actually a shit load of covers too :)

This sure brings back memories, Henk. I remember, in my family we always started the day just this way, but it always ended with blows and recrimination.
ReplyDeleteYou guys started the day with the Letkis dance???
ReplyDeleteNo, I was joking.
DeleteI was trying to imagine a family getting up and doing the Letkis dance every mor5ning, couldn't picture it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd then screaming at each other, accompanied by beatings.
DeleteWhen I was 8 we moved from a pretty bad area in Rotterdam to what was then a small city outside Rotterdam, Krimpen a/d IJssel, smack in the middle of a very hard-core Christian area where people would dress up in black every Sunday, the women would wear these weird hats and they would not smile, looking very angry in fact, all very Dutch Calvinist Protestant. I spend a pretty big part of my youth fighting every day in school and out of it, me and my younger brother against all of 'em, we were "city folks", sinners talking with our rough Rotterdam accents :)
