If you mean that huge bass in Indonesian traditional music, it's a huge gong, funny thing, when I do dj sets people always ask me about it, "what is that heavy bass??? crazy!!!" You can find it a lot in kliningan music, jaipong etc. :)
Thanks! I love bass and in terms of rhythmics it's not the use you expect from an occidental perspective, like it doesn't serve as a bass but as part of the drums/beat or as a wind instrument ( if that makes any sense ^^ ). I did heard that in more ethnic recording, was actually quite pleasantly surprised to find it back in more "pop" oriented pieces. Explored a bit of jaipong last night, will see what this "kliningan" entails. Thanks for the infos! and the shares
