PETER SCHAT - TO YOU/CANTO GENERAL

Great album from Dutch composer Peter Schat... The Cantos General is about, and dedicated to the democratically elected president of Chili, Salvador Allende, who, in 1973, was deposed in a CIA sponsored coup d'etat that brought the brutal Pinochet regime into power. Rather than being captured and humiliated, Salvador Allende took his own life, or so the offical story goes, and who can forget this iconic picture of him during the coup:

  1. i thought his cuban body guards had orders not to let Allende fall prisoner or surrender, and when he was about to surrender they put two bullets in his head... heard it from the horse's mouth.

  2. Wouldn't surprise me one bit, the revolution also needs its martyrs.... Seems his family is corroborating the official story but they're in politics too and might not want to rock the boat? One things for sure, all Kissinger's bloody handy-work, I will never understand why that butcher isn't serving life in isolation.....
