DARSO, RINA DEWI & TARPI - NYINTING
These old cassettes are funny. Today I was listening to my old recording of Darso with Tarpi, an amazing cassette, hard to put a genre on it, call it psychedelic pop Sunda, and the recording sounded not all that good. So I tried recording it with my new and awesome cassette player. A bit better sound but still not all that good. So I tried changing the casing and what do you know, amazingly good sound. So here is that Tarpi cassette again, sounding great. One of the most sought after Darso cassettes and one of the most sought after Indonesian cassettes in general and super, super rare....

Enjoy!

Henk, thank you very much ! but I have a question: maybe tarpi is not the name of the group, but the name of the style? just like here: https://madrotter-treasure-hunt.blogspot.com/2021/09/si-pecut-yayah-waryati-sekar-wangi_13.html
ReplyDeleteif so, it would be great to know what the style it is
Interesting... And very observant :) In all honesty, I have no idea, genres come and go in a crazy tempo here, traditional music is always moving, always changing here... I will try to find out!
ReplyDeleteSeems you might be right actually, not much to find but tarpi stands for gitar-kecapi, basically playing guitar in a way that it sounds like a kecapi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6KXb304I0U
ReplyDeletewow, that's amazing ! thank you for your research !
ReplyDeletethis upload also calls the genre "tarpi"

ReplyDeleteThanks for the new upload! Is there a history of Darso anywhere - such an interesting character in Indonesian music!
ReplyDeleteMore Darso (re-recordings) coming... Yeah, I imagine there should be some info on the net but probably not all that much. I do know that he was a becak driver at one time in the Sukajadi area in Bandung,,,,
