Yosaku is a lumberjack's song. Vaguely far back in time, simple life in an imaginary countryside.
YOSAKU was a work submitted to NHK's music programme ‘Your Melody’ from the general public . The lyricist and composer, Kiminori Nanazawa, went to the USA in 1976 to become a jazz guitarist, but had just returned to Japan when he realised that it was impossible for a Japanese person to become a real jazz player. As a reaction to his trip to the USA, he wrote this song, which was oriented towards something Japanese . The song was once rejected, but was improved and resubmitted, and was sung by Tetsuya Gengen on the programme, where it was selected as the best work of the year . In addition to Gengen, singles were released by Saburo Kitajima and Masao Sen. Kitajima's version, with a slight arrangement of the original song, was the biggest hit . The total sales of records released in the competition reached 600,000 copies .
It's Saburo Kitajima with "Yosaku" / "Kaze no Touge" from 1978.
