Back Ground of Mandarin Pop early 70's Five Swallows were one of them. In the 50‘s and 60’s, Kuo Dacheng, along with Wen Hsia and Hung Yi-Feng, became famous for ‘The Wandering Magician’. In the late 60's, the government launched the Mandarin Campaign, which had an impact on the development of Taiwanese songs, and in order to make a living, Kuo Dacheng started to form groups and perform abroad, and from 1969 onwards, he performed all over Japan and South-East Asia.
more The members of Taiwan's Five Swallows Chorus are: Xie Liyan, Yang Caiyun, Zhou Chunxiang, Chen Bibao, and Ou Lizhu. Among them, Ou Lizhu and Zhou Chunxiang were the most outstanding in singing. The Five Swallows Chorus was led by Guo Dacheng, of which one of the members, Xie Liyan, was also Guo Dacheng's wife. Kwok Tai-shing was famous for his jokes, and his songs were all confused songs, such as ‘Confused Chief Shopkeeper, Wandering Fist Master’ (Taiwan). Many of Kwok's songs were written with the help of his wife, Tse Lai Yin, and many of his lines were written by his wife. Unfortunately, his wife Tse Lai Yin died of cancer at an early age.
