H. DARIYAH & RINEKA SARI GROUP - GAMELAN CIREBONAN

Amazing cassette, I posted this before but here's a much, much better recording. Hard to explain how rare and how historically important this cassette is. Must've been put out in the early 70's this one, a still quite young H. Dariyah with the Rineka Sari Group and Tin Sutini and Mariyah. She, H. Dariyah, was very, very important in the development of the tarling and tayuban genres. Many, many of the tarling, tarling dangdut and tayuban singers posted on this blog studied with her....

French noise dj/turntablist/performing artist Dj Urine (Sebastien Lemonon) was very passionate about her, he even had a H. Dariyah picture tatooed on his arm and he, quite a few years ago, went to Cirebon to see what he could learn about her. He had this story where he was sitting in the train to Cirebon with a local friend and an old man sat in the front of him. They got to talking, his friend translating, because the old man saw his tatoo, and it turned out that the old man was H. T. Ma'mun, H. Dariyah's husband, he was leading her orchestra, the Cahaya Muda Group for decades and he told the sad, sad story of how it al ended for H. Dariyah.... When she was getting older, I don't know what age, late 50's, early 60's she got very sick and needed very expensive operations and they got deeply in debt. She and her husband were thrown out of their house when they couln't pay the debt. He was only allowed to take one wedding picture from them, they lost everything and she died shortly after, dirt poor.... I don't know... This is what Dj Urine told me... A terrible story, so sad, and she was such a legendary figure.... GET IT HERE Enjoy!
