Here's a talempong cassette from Mukhsin and Maymawarni with the Tanamo's Group, music from the Minangkabau area in West-Sumatera....
GET IT HERE
Enjoy!
Well, this is the first tape I got my hands on so I wouldn't really know, all I know is that this is a modernized version of talempong which is a kind of traditional music (that I'm also not familiar with)
thanks for sharing. been searching for more of this kind of stuff. here is the more "traditional" stuff: https://youtu.be/Zs3MFRPdVAo .
been searching years for the tape with this track: https://youtu.be/qCO5SWUFa5k . kind of a perfect mix of corny and nice type thing...
henk, do you have any older cassettes with this style: https://youtu.be/HDY03oh_PoU ?
really lovely live, loud, and guitar prominent sounds! darso tarpi - nyinting has real nice guitars as well as some tarling cassettes, particularly tarling nada budaya group tape.
Yeah I see that style all the time in the kampung that I live in, but never seen it on tape, sometimes its with guitar sometimes it isnt, filmed this right in front of my house last year:

its HARD finding anything these days, too many local collectors these days and way way way too many bloody bules buying way too many tapes and taking 'em out of the country :)
Very neat that it takes place outside your house. I dig the sound a lot. Shame you havent found it on cassette. I dont care for the subject of the celebration...circumcision and it looks rather uncomfortable for the horses, but the music is great.
that's a shame about the limited availability of tapes. i just hope that people are preserving them and eventually sharing them.
Excuse me Madrotter, I have a question about the tape. The tape looks like it has a year written on it. It says "5/3/81." Was this album released in 1981?
track 2 really stands out, but I like the whole tape. Is this indicative of talempong music in general?
