Yi Ru (1944-), real name Li Xiuli, is a singer from Hsinchu. In 1959, she joined the Leiming Recreation Team and the Great Wall Recreation Team, and sang Shanghai songs and patriotic songs for the army. 1961, she got married, and in 1962, she joined the Blue Sky Recreation Team of the Air Force, and was invited to participate in the ‘Star Club’ TV programme of the Taiwan Television Station to sing for them, which made her more and more popular. 1963, she gave birth to a son, Pan Ruodi, and joined Hapuzhong Records in 1964, singing old songs in the format of four albums a year. 1965, she released her first album ‘Voice of the Heart’, and divorced in 1966. In 1964, she joined Hap Chong Records and sang old songs under a four-album-a-year contract. In 1965, she released her first album ‘Voice of the Heart’, and in 1966, she divorced, but she continued to sing in concert halls and on TV. In 1967, she sang the popular ‘Yee Yee A Brother’ album, which was a hit, and she appeared in Hong Kong's stage productions and sang an interlude in a film by Joan Yiu. With her sweet soprano voice and deep bass, Yiru has released more than 20 albums, such as ‘Obsessed’, ‘Sweet Laughter’ and ‘Yiru's Bestsellers Collection’, and her representative songs include ‘First Love’, ‘Love of Rose’, ‘Drunkenness Last Night’, ‘Traces of Tears in My Heart’, ‘I Want to Sing for You’, ‘Autumn Sorrows’, ‘A Million Purples and Thousands of Colours’, ‘May I Ask Your Name’, ‘A Long Time Gone By’, ‘My Mother Wants Me to Get Married’, and so on. Afterwards, she lived with her son for a short time. After living with her son for a short period of time, she moved to a rented suite in Ximending, relying on the meagre income from the red packet farms to make a living, and is still single. 2014, she suffered from breast cancer, and is currently undergoing active treatment.
