Wan Fong-ling, originally from Dongguan, Guangdong, was born and raised in Hong Kong. She graduated from Clementi Secondary School, studied voice and performed in radio dramas for amateur societies, and became a full-time broadcaster for Commercial Radio in 1959. She became popular and sang the lead roles and theme songs of many radio dramas. In 1963, Wan made her debut in the Cantonese film Bitter Love, followed by a number of Cantonese and Mandarin films in the early 1970s, including The Queen of Broadcasting and Love in Love. In 1975, Wan left the commercial radio station and moved to TVB and Kai Yee Television, where she mainly performed in variety shows and TV dramas, as well as voice-overs. In the early 1980s, Wan rejoined the radio and performed in Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) radio dramas, including the ‘stereo radio drama’ The Old Cat of the Wesleyan Series, in which she co-starred with Mr. Chung Wai-ming. Afterwards, Wan gradually retired from broadcasting and moved to Australia with her engineer husband in 1988. After moving to Australia, she continued to work for a local cable TV station to serve the local Chinese community, and in 2001, she appeared in the TVB drama series ‘The Golden Years’.
