Tzu Wei(紫薇) (13 November 1930 - 4 March 1989), real name Hu Yihang (胡以衡), was a native of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. She was a famous singer in Taiwan, known as the ‘Evergreen Queen of Songs’, and died on 4 March 1989 after her cancer was detected in 1987
In 1950, she went to Taiwan, and in 1953, with the song ‘Green Island Serenade’ (Zhou Nanping's song, Pan Yingjie's lyrics), she became a hit in Taiwan, and was known as the ‘Evergreen Queen of Songs’. 1966, she set up a tent in Taiwan to accept apprenticeships, and in the same year, she recorded an album for Baidai Records called ‘I Can Accept Anything’, and in March 1989, she died at the age of 59 due to cancer. She died of cancer in March 1989 at the age of 59. Tzu Wei loved to sing since she was a child, and in high school she performed in restaurants and on the radio in Nanjing. 26 March 1953, Tzu Wei participated in the first live radio programme in Taiwan, ‘Jazz’ (Minben Radio) and sang ‘Night Comes to Fragrance’. Tzu Wei was married at the time, her youngest daughter had just turned 40 days old, and she had two children. Her husband was a professional soldier with a limited income of NT$190 per month, so Tzu Weiwanted to earn more money to subsidise her family, and with her husband's support, she was hired to perform on the radio, and so she formally stepped into the world of singing. In 1958, Tzu Wei joined the China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which was then the sole producer of national public and private radio programmes, and caused a collective boycott by Taiwan's private radio stations, which refused to play the songs she sang.
